West Dallas Thoroughfare Amendment
Proposed Regent Square Gary Schatz to speak at next meeting
We've had several meetings with the Regent Square project team to discuss the impending demolition and construction of the new mixed use property on the site currently occupied by Allen House.  The developer has discussed and reviewed with us five different variances that will be requested in the near term.

While the majority of the variances have received positive feeback as they surround setbacks and promoting a more pedestrian friendly environment, there have been some concerns raised about the the proposed W. Dallas thoroughfare amendment which would reconfigure the existing four lanes of W. Dallas between Waugh and Shepherd.

Many of the concerns have to do with whether constricting lanes of traffic will indeed provide the same level of mobility that the current configuration provides.

Gary Schatz of Walter P Moore will be our guest speaker on Tuesday May 8th to discuss the specifics of this amendment and answer any questions as it relates to this specific amendment.

The Return of "Fall Finds"
NMCA Fall Finds 2007 NMCA plans fall rummage sale
We are in process of planning for our 2007 "Fall Finds" event which will once again pair NMCA with Good Neighbor Health Care Center to encourage everyone to clean out their closets and either donate items or buy a booth to sell their own crafts, merchandise or second hand goodies.  The event will once again be located in the parking lot of GNHC at the corner of W. Gray and Taft.

Details are still being finalized, but if you would like to plan and/or volunteer for the event, please contact Lance Jones at 713-526-4778 or email at lance_jones25@yahoo.com

River Oaks Shopping Center
 Plans Announced
After many months of speculation, Weingarten RealtyRiver Oaks Shopping Center announced plans to demolish the 1930s shopping center at the north corner of W. Gray and Shepherd and build a two story structure using the original crescent shopping center footprint.  In addition, a four story parking garage will be built behind the adjacent portion of the north side of the center as depicted here.

There were no plans announced for the River Oaks Theater.

Anchoring the new center will be a Barnes & Noble as seen in this rendering.  No word yet as to whether we can expect a third Starbucks....

The North Montrose Civic Association is a non profit neighborhood association that for more than 25 years has promoted activism and social interaction through its civic minded volunteers with the purpose of improving our neighborhoods and overall quality of life.  While our neighborhood has undergone a radical transformation over the past 25 years, many of the issues we face today are still quite the same.  NMCA has been at the forefront of working with residents, businesses, elected officials and other organizations and institutions to provide a cohesive voice on those issues that affect our neighborhood.

While our neighborhood continues to change, so does our civic association.  We are excited about our new online newsletter as well as our revamped website.  Our hope is that these new interactive tools will allow us to keep you better informed of our upcoming meetings and events.  We also intend to have periodic socials during the year that will allow old and new friends to meet and get to know one another.

We welcome all of our new neighbors to join NMCA and encourage our existing members and old friends to renew their memberships.  It is an exciting time for NMCA and our neighbohood!  I look forward to meeting and working with you.

Sincerely,
