If you're planning to head out to watch the fireworks at this year's Freedom over Texas celebration, there's been a small change in plans.

NMCA is working with other neighboring civic associations to encourage their participation as well.

Proceeds from the event will go to participating civic associations and Good Neighbor Health Clinic.

So...we need everyone to clean out their closets and donate items or buy a booth to sell their own crafts, merchandise or second hand goodies.

WE NEED VOLUNTEERS!  If you would like to help plan, volunteer or partcipate in the event, please contact Lance Jones at 713-526-4778 or email at lance_jones25@yahoo.com

Open House Scheduled for Regent Square
Proposed Regent Square West Dallas Thoroughfare Amendment

An Open House will be held on July 10th from 6:30pm - 8:30pm at the United Way Center at 50 Waugh Drive allow the public review and input into amendments to the City's major thoroughfare projects.

The Amendment to reconfigure W. Dallas in connection with the Regent Square project will also be on display.

The public is invited to attend to ask questions, review plans and understand the nature of the amendments.

At somepoint NMCA will be asked to support this Amendment.  While we've had several meetings on the issue, we encourage you to attend and give us your feedback on whether you support the amendment or not.
Firework Reminder
It's Illegal!
Besides the risk of losing a finger or setting yourself or others on fire, remember that it is ILLEGAL to discharge fireworks or to have fireworks in your possession in the City of Houston.  The fines are anywhere from $500 - $2000 for each individual firework.   If a minor is caught with fireworks, the parent or guardian will receive the fine even if they were unaware of the minor's possession and/or usage.

Citizens should report all complaints regarding the illegal use of fireworks directly to the HPD Tele-communicator (non-emergency line) at 713-884-3131.  If the citizen believes that there may be a fire and/or medical emergency related to the use of fireworks, he/she should dial 9-1-1 and request the HFD.
Dr. Will Webber
It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of Dr. Will Webber.  Will was instrumental in the organization and success of the Neartown Little League.  Beyond playing a key role in the transformation of Chew Park, he also led the partnership with HISD and the Hilton Foundation to create Hilton Field at Wharton Elementary.

Our hearts and prayers are with Will's family during this difficult time.
The North Montrose Civic Association is a non profit neighborhood association that for more than 25 years has promoted activism and social interaction through its civic minded volunteers with the purpose of improving our neighborhoods and overall quality of life.  While our neighborhood has undergone a radical transformation over the past 25 years, many of the issues we face today are still quite the same.  NMCA has been at the forefront of working with residents, businesses, elected officials and other organizations and institutions to provide a cohesive voice on those issues that affect our neighborhood.

While our neighborhood continues to change, so does our civic association.  We are excited about our new online newsletter as well as our revamped website.  Our hope is that these new interactive tools will allow us to keep you better informed of our upcoming meetings and events.  We also intend to have periodic socials during the year that will allow old and new friends to meet and get to know one another.

We welcome all of our new neighbors to join NMCA and encourage our existing members and old friends to renew their memberships.  It is an exciting time for NMCA and our neighbohood!  I look forward to meeting and working with you.

Sincerely,
